I came online this morning to learn more about the Hendra virus and what happens to horses to educate myself, but wasn't expecting to come away so saddened, moved and tearful as I did. I read your account on your blog of your experience and it really helped me understand what horse owners go through when they have an outbreak on their property. You are so brave to post Dancer's last moments and your own moments of real pain, but thank you for your courage I hope it helps us all to learn just a little more. I will feel so different whenever I hear about another creature being diagnosed or dying. Wishing you all the very best.

I was looking up hendra symptoms just for my own knowledge and came across your website.
I have just sat and cried as I watched this happening to your beautiful Dancer. It must have been the most heartbreakingly dreadful experience for you. As horse owner/lover I feel so much for the grief you must have gone through with this. I am concerned for my own horses here in Sth Qld, it can happen to anyone and with the recent outbreaks it is a real worry. Let's hope they bring out the vaccine asap. I hope you have wonderful times with your surviving horses and descendants of Dancer and the others you lost.
