Hi Kate, i was involved in the 2009 Hendra case in Cawarral QLD. With all these cases this year, i want to help you to educate people, your website is fantastic and i will plug your website everywhere i go. cheers Ange
Hi Kate,
I also was searching for any information and came across your site. Thankyou for sharing your story and the information within. It certainly cleared up a few misconceptions that I had!
I will be recommending your site to my local horse community to raise awareness, particularly in regard to treating every sick horse with strict bio security.
I am so sorry for your loss
best wishes to you
Lea
Hi Kate,
I was just searching the net for any info on the Hendra virus, as today they announced a dog has contracted the virus & I came across your website. Well I've just stopped crying for your beautiful losses, I would just like to say you are doing a wonderful job by educating the community. Unfortunately for you, having to experience all of this would have been one of the hardest things in anyone's life to cope with & you've actually come away from it to where you're now helping more people than you probably realise.
I wish you well for the future
*lets hope they can stop it very soon
I too have just read the story about the loss of your horses to Hendra virus, this sadened me to read what you had to go through. I wish they would find a solution to this deadly virus or a vaccine so no one else has to experience what you and your poor family had to go through. My thoughts are with you sincerely. Very sad
I have just read about the tragic loss of your beloved horses to Hendra virus and the trauma and heartbreak you and your family have experienced due to this deadly virus. I have 2 horses myself, a 35 year old mare and a 14 year old gelding, both are agisted on a property not far from where I live in Taree (Mid North Coast NSW). There are no known fruit bat colonies in this area and the property my horses are agisted on has no fruit trees except for an old dead mulberry tree. I have seen no evidence of fruit bats in or near this property in the 2 years I have had my horses agisted there. The old couple that own the property feed fruit scraps to my horses regularly (mango/banana skins), which does concern me a bit. This morning my gelding was bleeding from one nostril having just had a gallop down the paddock, which really alarmed me, he was quite ok otherwise, ate his feed, drank from the dam and I left him grazing contentedly after ensuring that the bleeding had stopped. I'm hoping that he just burst a blood vessel in his nose from exerting himself galloping, or got a sharp stick up his nose when grazing, he's never bled from the nose before.
I think we need to get some conversation happening again, we need to re-read all the warnings and be reminded of how we can maybe help make our horses and family a bit safer.
Thanks again Kate for sharing with us.

Thanks Kate for sharing first hand with us. This virus is a real problem, and we all need to be better educated in what to look for, and learn how others have dealt with their experiences. I'm sorry that you had to lose Thomas as well.
Great Site. I'm so sorry to hear your experiences. Despite being so far away in Perth I can empathise with what your experiences. Vic Rail was a dear friend and one of the horses that died in the Hendra outbreak had gone from my stables in Perth to Vic.
